It is amazing how quickly you realize that the bike you riding just isn't going to cut it.  This is the case with the Honda Shadow 600.    It didn't take long to realize that this bike was a good starter... but not one for extended trips, including interstate riding.  It didn't take a lot of persuasion to convince my riding partner that she need to upgrade so that we could take a weeks vacation by motorcycle.  We did some research and determined that the replacement had to be 1100cc or larger with a seat height similar to the Shadow at around 26".  We quickly eliminated a large number of bikes that had seat heights in excess of 28" (couldn't get her feet flat on the ground).  It really came down to the Yamaha V-Star 1100 and the Honda VTX 1300.  Both bike came in at around 600 lbs, with seat heights of around 27".  After speaking with John at Tousley Motorsports she decided on the VTX.  Red was the color of choice in the sporty version.  We are making a few changes to the bike.  We added a windshield and roll bars right away and will be changing the handlebars for a more laid back ride when all of the parts arrive.  She recently added saddlebags and a windshield bag for storage.  We have ventured out quite a bit and the bike definitely has enough power to maintain interstate speeds in a safe fashion.  Overall, it was a great choice!
