Back to the cruisers:
After a year of riding a BMW K1200LT
,
which by the way is one nice ride if it were not for the foot back riding
position (kills my knees) I have decided that I am more of a cruiser,
leather wearing type of motorcycle rider. So with that in mind I sold
the BMW (my wife cried... she really liked the looks of that bike) and
started my search for a cruiser.
I immediately ruled out Suzuki because in my opinion they
are junk! I ruled out Kawasaki because they just really don't do
anything for me and the dealership choices in my area are poor! Harley
and Victory were ruled out because they are too damn expensive and frankly,
I just don't believe they are worth paying more for.
This left me with Honda or Yamaha. I had my sights
set on a price range between $9K and $11K. I also wasn't going to go
lower than 1100cc's and really wanted more. I also was looking for a
bike with the retro look. I like the old style cruiser look.

Honda offered the VTX 1300 and VTX 1800. The VTX
1300 met all of my requirements while the VTX 1800 was a bit expensive.
I liked the forward controls on the standard VTX 1300 but the VTX 1300 Retro
had floor boards. I sat on a VTX 1300 and I was a little big on it.
No one in my area had the retro model so I had to rule it out.
Yamaha offered several bikes that met my criteria.
The V-Star 1
00
Silverado is an exact duplicate of the 650cc version I originally owned.
The bike still felt small. My wife was really impressed with the Road
Star Warrior however it didn't offer the retro look that I really wanted.
In the end I went with the Yamaha Road Star. The Road Star has a
1600cc motor. Damn it scoots!!! It has the retro look that I
really like. The seat is huge, even for my big butt. I was able
to find the metallic brown color that I loved and best of all, I will have
the opportunity to customize it the way I want.
Ride On!!!
